Abstract:
In 1561, a rather unimportant Spanish soldier named of Lope de Aguirre seized control of a colonial expedition that searched for the mythical kingdom of El Dorado, and led it from the depths of the Amazon in a rebellion against the Spanish Empire. Since then, Lope de Aguirre has been reviled and praised in equal measure in chronicles, ghost stories and numerous works of fiction. Among these productions, Felipe Hernández Cava's graphic novel trilogy stands out due to its use of the narrative resources of comics and the meaningful visual contrast between the styles of the artists that sign each installment: Enrique Breccia, Federico del Barrio, and Ricard Castells.

It's really interesting — especially in the way it explores the figure of Lope de Aguirre through comics rather than Granny Game traditional forms of historical storytelling.
