Dr. Song Yang joined the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at The University of Hong Kong in 2026. He holds two doctoral degrees: a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of León (2011), supported by the China Scholarship Council, and a second PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2015), funded by the Spanish Government’s MAEC-AECID Scholarship. Prior to joining HKU, Dr. Song served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish at Peking University (China) and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Granada (Spain).

In teaching, he integrates research-led instruction with corpus-informed practice and project-based translation training. He has developed a range of digital learning resources, including MOOCs and textbook series tailored for Chinese-speaking learners of Spanish. His pedagogical excellence has been recognized with the National Award for Outstanding Teaching Achievements in Higher Education from the Ministry of Education of China, alongside multiple university-level excellence awards.

His research interests center on Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) pedagogy for Chinese-speaking learners, Spanish–Chinese contrastive linguistics, intercultural communication, translation didactics, and historical linguistics. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS), and has secured competitive research funding for projects investigating language learning beliefs, AI-enhanced language education, and cultural translation.
