Mr. Purwins holds a MA in "Teaching German as a foreign Language" and "language and Culture" from the university of Hull-Wittenberg, Germany. He conducted his undergraduate studies in Japanese studies and business oriented linguistics in an intercultural context (BLIC) from the university of Hull-Wittenberg, Germany.  Mr. Purwins joined the university of Hong Kong  as an assistant lecturer in 2015. He his a certified language examiner for all German language levels up to C1.

His research expertise is in M-Learning, E-Learning with a special emphasis on mobile learning. His research lead to the introduction and improvement of online materials and learning methods for autonomous German studies.  

He teaches a variety of courses related to German language and culture, with an emphasis on communication and real-life application. His key emphasis is on students experiencing a journey while learning contemporary German.
