SPAN2002. Spanish II.2

Elective Course

This course provides an opportunity to study Spanish and to experience linguistic and cultural immersion in a partner institution located in a Spanish-speaking country. The linguistic and cultural immersion usually takes place during the summer months (e.g., June, July and/or August) (courses may also be offered in the winter break) and the duration of the stay may vary from two weeks to one month, but must include at least 60 hours of formal class tuition. Students typically take part in this linguistic and cultural immersion experience after the completion of their second year of language studies at HKU. This experience is carried out by means of an intensive course designed to build on and to reinforce the language competence acquired during the previous years of study as well as to prepare the participants for more advanced work in the final years of the Programme.  Upon completion of the intensive course, students can enrol in SPAN3119 at HKU the following academic year.

The aims and objectives of this course are as follows: i. to expand the participants’ proficiency in all aspects of the language; ii. to offer a first-hand cultural and linguistic experience of the environment where the language is spoken; iii. to better prepare the participants for more advanced work upon their return.
