[Dec 2] Thai Voices in Hong Kong: Culture and Community


Date: December 2, 2024 (Monday) Time: 3pm to 5pm Venue: CPD-3.15, Run Run Shaw Tower, HKU Synopsis: Dr. Bungon Tamasorn, founder and chairperson of the Thai Regional Alliance in Hong Kong (TRA), will present an engaging talk titled An Overview of the Thai Community in Hong Kong and the Role of Thailand and Thai Culture in Hong Kong. The discussion will delve into the vibrant contributions of the Thai community to Hong Kong’s multicultural society and highlight the significant influence of Thai culture in areas such as food, art, and traditions. Dr. Tamasorn will also shed light on the historical and contemporary dynamics of the Thai diaspora in Hong Kong, the challenges they face, and the vital role of organizations like TRA in supporting their integration and cultural exchange. This talk aims to provide students with valuable insights into the interconnectedness of cultures and inspire a deeper appreciation of Thailand’s cultural impact on Hong Kong’s diverse community.


Speaker: Dr. Bungon Tamasorn is the founder and chairperson of the Thai Regional Alliance in Hong Kong (TRA). A prominent advocate for cultural exchange, she works to support the Thai community and promote Thai culture in Hong Kong. Under her leadership, TRA has become a bridge between Thai expatriates and Hong Kong society, fostering mutual understanding and showcasing the richness of Thai culture on an international stage.
