Our students completed a field-trip course in Spain in the summer of 2023 which allowed them to experience first hand how historical events impact on contemporary societies, and how different countries (Spain, in this case) deal with aspects such as migration, gender and sexual identities, governance, work, education, leisure and art in ways that may or may not differ from students' own countries. Students visited relevant sites and institutions in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Toledo guided by their teacher, and interacted with Spanish people in order to be immersed in the Spanish society for two weeks and gather data for their course projects. The pedagogical approach adopted in this course whereby students had to take an active part in their learning and that of their peers will have a lasting effect on students' life and offered a meaningful and enjoyable experience.
